“Drama school was so different to what I was taught at school..”

Hey there aspiring actors! Are you considering attending drama school? If so, congratulations on taking the first step towards making your dream a reality! Here’s a quick guide on what to expect when you go to drama school:

I was a pandemic drama school graduate. Obviously, a very odd time to train indeed. My training was made up of many Zoom sessions and making space for dance class in my London box apartment living room. My school years were 2018-2021 and here’s my top seven tips of what I wish I was told before going to a top UK drama school.

  1. Intense Training: Drama school is intense and demanding.

Expect long days filled with classes, rehearsals, and workshops. You’ll be learning a wide range of skills, from acting technique and voice work to stage combat and movement.

2. A Lot of Performance Opportunities

Drama school is all about getting experience on stage. Expect to perform in a variety of productions, from plays and musicals to improvisation and experimental theatre.

3. Networking with New Students

Drama school is a melting pot of students from different backgrounds, cultures, and levels of experience. This diversity will provide you with an opportunity to learn from different perspectives and to collaborate with a wide range of individuals.

4. A Supportive Environment

Drama school is a supportive environment where you can take risks and make mistakes without fear of judgment. You’ll have access to a variety of resources and professional guidance, as well as a community of peers who will support you throughout your journey.

5. A lot of hard work and dedication

Drama school is not easy, it requires a lot of hard work, dedication and time. You will be expected to attend long hours of classes, rehearsals, and performance. You need to be prepared to put in a lot of effort and time to achieve your goals

6.The Importance of Self-Care

Drama school can be stressful, so it’s important to take care of yourself. Make sure you’re getting enough sleep, eating well, and taking care of your mental and emotional well-being.

The Opportunities After Graduation

Drama school will open doors for you after graduation. You will have many opportunities to work in different fields of theatre, film, and television, as well as in other areas such as teaching, writing and directing.

Attending drama school can be a challenging and rewarding experience. It’s a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of acting and to develop the skills and experience you need to succeed in the industry. Remember to stay focused, be open to new opportunities, and most importantly, enjoy the journey!
